Russell Brand, David Walliams and Jonathan Ross took to London’s Roundhouse’s stage on Friday night after Morrissey abandoned the gig because he lost his voice.
According to ol’ Russ on his BBC Radio 2 show on Saturday the three comedians had gone to the show together and decided to get up partly to appease the baying crowd, and partly out of a shared passion for showing off.
Rather than being pleased that the announcement that Morrissey wasn’t able to come back on was given by arguably two of the country’s finest comedians (and Jonathan Ross) who were clearly willing to do some impromptu stand up, the crowd booed and pelted them with coins and bottles until they were ushered off the stage. After which, of course, there was no entertainment to be had and everyone had to go home.
Apparently Ross and Walliams got attacked outside the gig too.
Morrissey fans are mental.
Here’s a dodgy transcript of the cameo:
Russell: That’s why we’re here for love of Morrissey, he’s not well. We’ve come here to tell you that unfortunately he can’t get back on stage (booing) He in’t well! This in’t my job, I don’t work here, I’ve come out for the love of Morrissey, a love that we’re supposed to share.
Ross: …(inaudible)… Listen. They’ve asked us to say if you hold on to your tickets they’ll make sure you see Morrissey in the near future. You can see people making every effort. His voice will die now. You don’t want to kill him in his prime do ya?
Russell: (inaudible) …further information. But now David Walliams will perform…
Ross: … 20 minutes of I’m a lady.
(Walliams steps up to the mic, gets hit with coin and is ushered off)
Russell: Stop it… calm down it’s Morrissey…
Ross: (sings a bit of international playboy)

That crowd were foolish. Get a free gig out of Brand, get yer money back and see Morissey when he is on form.

Mentalists, I would have adored that! 4 for the price of one in the end. Bonza.
